U13 boys are Provincial Champions!

For the second year running, PGYSA is proud to announce that one of our teams is BC Soccer B Cup Provincial Champions!  The U13 boys Kodiak team beat Nelson Selects 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Powell River to clinch the Provincial title, going 4-0 for the weekend.

Both goals in the final were scored by striker Kyle West, who top-scored for the competition with nine goals.  The triumphant boys are shown below with coaches Brad Stewart and Scott Emmons.

U13 Kodiaks Gold Medallists

PGYSA President, Richard Watt commented: "The fact that we as an association have now brought home gold from provincials two years in a row sets a standard for the club which everyone will want to match in years to come.  Most striking for me is the fact that, this year, all our medalists were teams made up of players who have come through our development system as 10, 11 and 12-year olds.  We established our development program with the intent of teaching our young players at the key learning years the skills and habits they will need to be successful in the future, and we are beginning to see the results of this approach.  Our Technical Director, Joel Macdonald, has taken our first steps in development soccer this year, and grown them into our new Future Stars program, closely tied to Soccer Canada's Long Term Player Development plan, and I am sure that future Provincial Championships will see many more Prince George teams challenging for honours as a direct result of the work we are putting in now to teach young players the skills they will need once they reach the competitive years.

"It is hard for Prince George teams to compete against areas of the province which have longer outdoor seasons and more competition for places, but this weekend has shown that we can more than hold our own in competition, and I congratulate all our coaches, managers and players who took part, and I thank the parents of all these players for the sacrifices they make so these boys and girls can compete successfully."
